[TCML] Re: Schematic and Plans Needed to Build a Musical Tesla Coil

According to John Freau's empirical equation, 5 KW should be good for 10 feet IF everything is optimally implemented. His empirical equation is:

Length = 1.7 * sqrt(input power)

where "length" is in inches and "input power" is in watts. This equation was designed for spark gap coils but it should be applicable to DRSSTCs also. I emphasize that this is for a very well-designed coil. Most people do not quite achieve the predicted length. My 6.5 KVA SGTC achieves a 9-foot streamer yet the Freau equation predicts 11 feet. I am not familiar with the EVR design. Another factor that helps is that DRSSTCs are 10% to 20% more efficient than a SGTC.

Hi Pranab,

I will admit I am not real familiar with these types of coils.
And, so not familiar with the plans you are talking about.

The power you have available is more than enough as far as I know.

I would contact Daniel McCauley at EVR, to make sure these plans will work
for expected 8ft output before a lot of wasted time and money.

He should be able to help you get on the right path to this.
