When my spark gap is lined up to fire, it is locked to fire at the peak of the ac sign wave and changing the tank capacitor or anything else does not change where I have it locked, the sign don't change.

If I remember correctly, at 120 bps, if you change the setup by changing the capacitor size, then yes, you have to change the phase setting because a larger capacitor will likely take longer to charge.  But at 240 bps the phase position will be less important as I mentioned.  Yes in general you want to adjust the phase for maximum power throughput and maximum spark output.

The setting of a SRSG is adjusted to maximize the power transfer of a given arrangement.  The peak will occur at a specific phase angle with that set up. When there are changes in the arrangement of the set up the peak may occur at a different phase angle so the phase setting of an SRSG would need to be adjusted to the new peak phase angle. Am I wrong?I am only stating my understanding as I understand it.

Hi Steve this was a clip out of a conversation that two other people had, I
was just questioning the statement that did not make sense to me.

I also have made a john freau phase adjuster, and im running 120 pps and do
see and hear a difference at before the top of the sine and after. But like
many others I don't think it makes much of a difference at higher ppm and
more power. I get about 45 degrees of movement and mine runs and sounds best
at little before top of sine. With only 2 presentation per revolution, it
make a big difference where I charge at.

This doesn't make sense to me. As you stated the firing is the same
regardless of the capacitance. I have a John Freau style phase adjuster. I
have tried adjusting the firing point from nominal and I see no effect. I am
running at 240 PPS. Maybe you would see more affect at 120 PPS.

This is a synchronous spark gap they are talking about.

Let just assume that the srsg is set to fire just before peak, how is
changing the tank cap going to change the phase, as it is still firing at
the same phase no matter what size tank cap is used.
