Re: [TCML] Wrong theory spreading

Good catch.

Maybe those who try the "bad" relation will notice a difference for the worse (or better?).

I have noticed a problem spreading in the Tesla coil theory listed in web sites, even in the Wikipedia. The tuning relation for an ideal Tesla coil is L1C1=L2C2 (streamer loading included), as well known since the times of Tesla. The relation even appears in his notes and is easy to verify by a quite simple analysis. Some sites are saying that the ideal relation is L1C1=(1-k^2)L2C2 (L1, C1 in the primary, L2, C2 in the secondary, k is the coupling coefficient). This is not true for an ideal spark gap Tesla coil. Even for a DRSSTC designed for maximum efficiency the relation is (1-k^2)L1C1=L2C2. They cite an obscure paper in Japanese, impossible to find (wrong ISBN), as origin and a German site that does not prove the relation and appears to be dealing with solid-state designs (see Wikipedia and innumerable copies).
