Re: [TCML] Need capacitors

Brian,

The Eurofarad capacitors you mention are getting hard to source, as you now know.
They are wonderfull caps, and they would have enabled you to run the DRSSTC at a combination of both long on-times, high breakrates and high primary currents.
To fully utilize these caps, you would probably need to water cool both the primary coil and the IGBT's, so in the end, you might agree that less will do.

I don't quite understand what is happening in the power electronics world at the time(perhaps Bert Hickman can expand on this), but it would appear that GTO caps are on the way out. The only distributor that I can find stocking them is Mouser, and they have WIMA on stock.
Not many right now, because I just bought what I need.

However, they still have 11 pcs. 3.5µF/1500VDC @around 50$ a pop, so I suggest you grab them as quick as you can.
The days when you could build a DRSSTC with bargain surplus materials is over!
On the positive side, buy new parts, and you can rely on the reproductability of your acheivements.

Hope this helps,

Cheers, Finn Hammer
