They are not fully round and will therefore produce squished terminal, but
it's worked fine for me in the past. The problem is the lip, adding
insulation with a cut vinyl tube etc. might work but I've always found that
to be a losing game in the end.
You're not going to be able to insulate the seam - the field is much
higher than mere vinyl is going to handle.
For these I am considering grinding the lip off and put my time into making
that surface smooth and consistent before adding some rubber tape.
I'd try just cutting the lip of at least one of them off - dremel tool,
power saw, nibbler, etc.
You could try folding the lip inwards (pair of pliers, grip, bend), and
then maybe a bit of work with a hammer and you can get a set of tabs set
inside slightly that the other bowl can fit onto.
A piece of aluminum tape around the seam and you're done.
