Dan, All, I have some lamination steel that's perfect for making variable reactors for pole transformer driven Tesla Coils. I'll sell whatever you need lengthwise for $10 + actual shipping costs (1/4" stack on each side - total 1" stack, $2.50 for each additional 1/4" stack if you want more than 4). Some of you may remember, I used to own D&M's High Voltage. We made variable reactors for Tesla Coil applications. The steel I'm selling is some we used in the variable reactors that we made for Tesla Coil applications. It actually doesn't take too much steel - only about 1/4" thick on 4 sides. If you put much more than that the forces out weigh the benefits. I'll post the dimensions I have as soon as I can. The steel I'm selling was new at the time, but, has some rust on it - no problem for this application though! To make the reactors, you just need a square tube. We used square FRP tubing similar to this found on McMaster Carr: https://www.mcmaster.com/8548K23. Here's the general link for other sizes: https://www.mcmaster.com/square-tubing (Structural Fiberglass Tubing). Take a small square tube so that you can tape a stack about 1/4" of steel on each side. It doesn't have to be square - you could make it round, triangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, octagonal, etc. It's just easier to put the laminations on a flat side and and having flat sides help keep the yoke from twisting which is especially good if you use a motor driven gear drive to move the yoke in and out of the coil. You then have a variable reactor! If interested, please contact me off-list at my Verizon.NET account: DMsHV.DavMcKin..... I'm located in the Tampa, FL area I'm working on starting to post some other Tesla related items I have for sale. Some of these are: 50:1 Gear Reducer for a winding machineVacuum Pump (strong)Primary Support BracketsSecondary Endcaps Not sure what all is there, but, will post as I can! Best regards, David L. I came across this idea (http://hotstreamer.deanostoybox.com/mnovak/ballast.html) of using 1/8" welding rods inside a 2" PVC wrapped with 500ft of stranded 10awg THHN. Seems cheap and functional. You can add or remove rods to alter inductance and raise and lower the core as well. I wonder if there are any other equally cheap/good or better ideas?
