Hi Steve,

No, and it's the most awkward of answers. He passed away a while back. I don't remember the date unfortunately.

I am way behind the times because I was absent from the TCML for about a 10 year period, only having recently rejoined. I attended one of D.C. Cox's teslathons back in 2002 I believe. At the time I didn't have a finished coil. I had a really good time. So here is the awkward question. Is he still around?

Dave,

Yea, I went to one of DC’s last “Lightning on the Lawn” Teslathons in ‘07 and had brought some of my goodies, including my Green Monster coil. My control panel was too massive for me to lift into the bed of my truck and haul some 700 or so miles each way, so I just brought my main tank circuit assembly and fired it off of DC’s power control for his “Bruiser” coil.

Anyway, I had brought some other goodies for sell or trade including a couple of composite, 0.04 uFd, 40 kV (IIRC) mica RF caps. DC wanted those caps and I wanted one of his pole pigs. He would typically unpot the pig and place it his own custom made tank, but I had informed him that I preferred my transformer in its original tank. Anyway, I ended trading those two caps for a 10 kVA, 14.4 kV pig (and he shipped it to me free of charge) as an even swap.

I miss D.C. Cox. He used to sell 10 kva pigs for $75, although the shipping cost was still horrendous. At least you didn't make up some story on how you planned to use them.

A word of advice. You don't need to tell the seller what you are going to do with it.

This is addressed to the person that was recently lamenting the fact that he couldn't find a pole transformer to buy. Here is a refurbished 10 KVA dual bushing unit for sale on E-Bay for $400 plus shipping. The ad wants to know whether the destination is commercial or residential to calculate shipping. This implies that the company (Dakota American Transformers) is not levying any restrictions on who they sell to. So here you are.
