I should have mentioned that my secondary is 4 inches in diameter. So you're doing a little over double your secondary diameter. You get no arcs to the secondary? Do you mind telling me how your primary is made? I was thinking of just doing some turns on a section of sonotube...

I don't know of a rule of thumb. But I can say that my bipolar has a 8" diameter primary with a 3 1/2" dia. secondary.
