Re: [TCML] Lower than expected performance

Don’t know how to address you, as I see no name. That being said, what kind of spark gap design have you employed? Assuming proper tuning, improper cooling / quenching of SG is probably the biggest performance thief of SG driven TCs. Also, salt water caps do tend to be a bit lossy in comparison to their commercially manufactured counterparts. I’d start by re-examining my SG design, though.

Subject: [TCML] Lower than expected performance

Here's what I have currently...
18 salt water caps in parallel each measuring 1.6 nF each.
3 12kV 30 mA.
85 uF input capacitor.
3" abs wrapped with 24 ga wire approx 1000 turns.
Torus is 16" x 3" with breakout.

I just can't seem to get bigger than 2 foot arcs.
I moved the secondary up/down with no marked improvement.
The secondary is about 2 inches from primary which is at a 30* with 13 available wraps but attached at 10.

Any ideas?? Or should I be happy with what I got?
