Do a search for EMP protection circuits and see if you can replicate one of
them.  The HV diodes aren't the right thing.

I got a new 5V DC 20amp switching supply. If i put a 12KV (or 2) oven diode
backwards across the +/- will that give me some spike protection?

I went to my local ax man today someone sold them a tesla coil but they
wouldnt sell it to me :(
