Lots of ways to visualise magnetic fields in the air as it were. Like this: https://plus.google.com/+PeterTerren/posts/8FFB8S89PfmIt uses a stick with 3 Hall devices on it, with a different colour LED associated with each one. A processor reads each value and will run the LED if it is within a certain range. The magic happens if the space is swept rapidly in near darkness and a long photographic exposure is taken.

It looks like a high resolution CCD could work, or perhaps a network of lower resolution CCDs. http://www.specinst.com/What_Is_A_CCD.html However, the engineering skills needed to put it together are beyond me. Perhaps you could find an optical group that could help you on this.
