Yes, this should work well. As long as it is at least as wide as your topload you should be OK.
You might want to consider running a piece of bare wire along the seam with a "basting statch"
 that can be easily removed if you need to change location.

In building my mid sized tesla coil (2 NST 15kv 60mA each), 45 caps for 30
nF
30kV total, 6" diameter 31" tall 26 gauge secondary... I've picked up 2
rolls
of 5'x2' Hardware cloth (1/4" squares) and wanted to lay them down
slightly
overlapping.

Will this ~5'x4' RF ground be large enough for a coil of my
size?
