Re: [TCML] Wanting to build a big coil

Hey Scot,

Long time, no hear ;^) Good to hear from you again and that you're still
actively engaged in this hobby. I thought you had already built a big coil
of similar magnitude in the past? I specifically recall you running two
14.4 kV pigs in series output and running up to about 32 kV when
overdriven by a 280 volt input from you variacs. I aso recall you stating
some of the damage that some of your HV goodies had sustained in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (August, '05 - good grief, how time flies!).
I thought that your previous big coil had "survived" the storm, though?
Or maybe you are just cannibalizing your previous big coil for better
big coil? :^)

Anywho, good luck with your next project and let us know how it
goes.

PS - Your coil's specs are quite similar to those of my Green Monster
piggy driven SG coil and your 4-gang 1256D power supply is
identical ;^)

Hey guys,

I want to build a really big coil, like as in bigbig.
Heres what I have
12"X56" secondary wrapped with 20ga.
3/8 Cu primary 17 turns
Polepig seriesed for 30KV output
Inductor set at 60A
Maxwell Caps seriesed for 250KV
Toroid 14"X60"
rotory gap with tungsten electrodes @ 1800rpm ( not 1760)
safety gap
Power Supply is
4 1256D series/paralelled for 280VAC at 100A

now to get this thing up and running....
