The transformer oil I removed form a large 150kVA or so big transformer salvaged from a job site is yellowish but clear, and it is real tranny oil. It does burn for sure. I have four 5 gallon buckets of it, sitting 2 over 2 in my garage. I apparently pushed my dust collector into one and the corner pierced an upper bucket causing a slow seep. I happened to notice before it got too big. Luckily I had a spare orange Home Repot 'Homer' bucket and poured it into a new one. I wiped the old one out with a paper towel and just for fun lit the corner. It burns very well! So it may contain trace PCBs but I have not tested it yet. What is the cheapest way to test for this? The oil has been slowly turning from clear to a yellow color . What could be causing this ? They still seem to function ok.
