There's a fair number on eBay in various configurations and prices. Don't forget that if you get one of the multi stack units, you can gang them in parallel or series to get to more current or voltage.

Variac is a brand name for variable autotransformers from Staco but everyone uses it for others.

You probably want a Staco 5021 (28A, 240V) or a 6020 (35A)

just so you know what they cost new. $1350 for the smaller one, $1900 for the bigger.

used, in good condition, but from someone who knows what they're worth, probably a few hundred bucks. Scrap, probably $50, mostly because of the perception of the value of the copper.

From a coiler who bought a bunch at an auction as scrap and is parting them out.. somewhere in between.
