Is that continuous duty cycle? In what environment?
For TC use, which is usually in short bursts, you can probably get by
with a smaller transformer.
You can also do forced air cooling, although there's a lot of mass and
not much surface area in the usual transformer.
The other thing is how much adjustment range and resolution do you need?
There's a bunch of ways to adjust the voltage to a coil. Two big
movable carbon electrodes in a barrel of salt water, for instance <grin>
BUT, surplus is what you're looking for, and these things are getting
harder to find because they're being replaced by electronic controllers
of one sort or another. Shipping will be expensive (it's probably a 50
pound item). Demolition contractors might be pulling them out of places
like plating shops or theatrical venues. Your local copper wire
recycler might see them.
