Get rid of the series caps.
Simply you have too much power for a static gap.
Use a ballast resistive or inductive to reduce power before you run a high 
power to stop the power arcing.
A sucker gap is only going to work at high powers if powerful and well 
designed ie not with MOT's.
If you still have an NST (with Terry filter) try that instead to get things 
running at low power without the power arcing.
