[TCML] Tuning primary to secondary with a scope

Ok, so far I can hook up a function generator to one end of my secondary (with the toroid on the other end to complete that LC circuit) and use a scope with a little wire on the probe and gets its actual frequency.
How about the primary coil and cap frequency? I know the function generator output can go to to the tap point of the primary coil, and down under on the innermost turn is the connection to the MMC (making the other LC circuit) but should I disconnect the MMC from the power feed going in to it? So that it's just the primary coil and cap? What's the difference in the frequency of the primary when the tank is powered vs when it's unplugged? Aside from the 60 Hz coming from the outlet
