They are sometimes used as a spark gap switch in personal protection 
zappers, running at a few hertz, a few amps and microcoulombs of charge 
transfer.  You could probably make a cute little TC with one or two of 
these--worth a try.  On a larger coil they would rapidly become a 
special effect.
