Re: [TCML] which is more recommended? MOT or NST?
MOTs output an unpleasantly low voltage, which makes spark gaps unreliable.
It becomes necessary to use a four-pack under oil, a 2-pack with a doubler,
or a single MOT with a doubler and resonant charging. The third option is
sort of difficult (you need, among other things, a high voltage charging
choke). The first is messy, and the 2nd decreases reliability (you now have
both MOTs AND a doubler to kill! plus MOTs in air is bad) Also, MOTs are not
the highest quality of transformers :P
It can be done, and it works, but it takes a lot of work and isn't pretty
(imho).
