Yea, I bought one of these things and I do admit, it was fine for a while.
There is no way this variac can handle 20 amps without arcing out as I was
hardly able to squeeze 16 amps out of it without sparking or burning.
Also, the outlet in it is very flimsy and will get pushed into the body of
the variac. I ended up replacing this with two vintage powerstats,
much smoother and plus these things can handle way over their rated power :)
