Let me make sure I'm understanding you. The common is the point in the middle of the safety gap, yes? So when the safety gap fires, the voltage would just dissipate to the midpoint of the transformer (midpoint ground)?

Another idea I'd like to run by you guys, how about putting something metallic under the feet of the tesla coil platform to make the connection with the counterpoise? For the matter, how DO you guys make the connection if its not something like what I'm thinking?
