Re: [TCML] Grounding a Tesla Coil (Yes, Again)
""This is why I opted to burrying copper pipe(s) in the yard to make
up for a lack of horizontal space""
If you do go the in-ground route you will not want to try hammering
copper pipes into the dirt, theyll pretzel up on you real quick.
At Lowes or Home Depot, in the electrical section they have copper
clad ground rods in 8 and 10 foot lengths for around $15.
You can cut them to any manageable length you want (grind a new point
on each piece if you can).
Pick up some clamps to attach your wires to them while you are there too.
Run your hose on the spot where you want to plant it, wait for the
earth to saturate, then run the hose again, repeat as necessary til
you think its soft enough to start driving your rods in, it may take
many hours.
Here in Jersey I can drive a 4 foot length with a 10 lb sledge into
virgin ground with little to no problem, barring any large rocks.
If you put it/them out in the lawn, be sure not to leave more than an
inch above the ground so you dont have to worry about your lawn mower
or tripping over it.
Just be sure not to plant any rods near your underground utilities,
including water and septic.
