I remember someone used a fan shroud in the past, but I can't 
remember who it was.  Basically folks have used all sorts of 
things at one time or another as toploads.  Some of the old 
fans shrouds didn't even have any paint, they were bare metal.

There are some old large heavy industrial fans on a pedestal
and have nicely formed shrouds.  These shrouds can be 
about 40" in diameter or so.  These are often seen in
warehouses, post offices, factories, etc.

What do you think about a toroid made out of a fan shroud off of one of

those swiveling fans that we all pull out in the summer?
