Re: [TCML] TC Application
Dissolved ozone in water is fairly inexpensive to test for. Ambient ozone
detection is much more costly. We use Hach at work, but Draeger makes good stuff
too. We don't use handhelds, so I can't offer advise on that, other than to say
they ain't cheap.

Google "handheld ozone monitor" and you'll get several hits. One company rents
them. Otherwise, ventillate. What good is it to know that the concentration is
above the OSHA 12 or 8 hour limits, if you're gagging and getting headaches?
Ozone and NOx will kill other things in your garage besides your lungs, such as
speaker surrounds, and other soft rubber. If there is any moisture, some species
of NOx can form nitric acid.

I seem to recall some stuff in the archives, but in general, small scale testing
is done with apparatus from companies like Draeger (you'll also see it Drager,
without the umlaut). You have a sort of squeeze bulb air pump that pulls air
through a tube containing some reagents that change color.
The stuff isn't cheap. The pump is several hundred dollars, because it has to
pull a calibrated amount of air (100 cc per stroke, I think)... one could
probably improvise something and calibrate it yourself (piston in a cylinder).
The tubes are, as I recall, something like $5-10 each in boxes of 10 or 12.
They are available for hundreds of things to be tested for.
It looks like Draeger has a new product called the Bio-Check Ozone, which is a
little card with a circle that changes color. That might be worth
investigating.
