Just checked up on high voltage IGBT prices.
3300 and 6500 volt types are also high power types, and prohibitively 
expensive. Might catch one on e-bay come time.
I do have some 1700V types in store. One of them could handle a 2-turn 
primary coil, around 200mm in diametre. And if anyone thinks this would 
be able to channel enough power into an experimental coil, I`d be more 
than happy to rig it up, including related coils.
I cannot devote much analytical time to it, since I am building the RAT 
DRSSTC at the sime, but I could help make designs come to life. I have 
the controllers available.
