Re: [TCML] coupling coefficient

Hi Shaun,

I currently have two coils. The smaller gives the biggest sparks with the least problems when the primary is dead level with the bottom turn of the secondary. The slightly larger one seems to work best when primary is one inch below the bottom of the winding. In the final analysis, the best height for YOUR primary wrt YOUR secondary is the place at which YOU measure YOUR best results.

Subject: [TCML] coupling coefficient

Something that puzzled me about my coil was how high I had my primary coil wrt
he bottom of the secondary, I had it about 2 inches above the bottom of the
econdary to make the coil perform well. But I've read on the list other people
aving them about level and that that was optimum. I'm checking my coil with
ilbury's spreadsheets and at level his excel spreadsheet says that k=-0.022 on
y coil.
My specs are:
secondary is 4.25 inch dia
ound with 26 gauge magnet wire
Primary ID is 6.8 inches
ound with 3/16 inch copper tubing in a flat pancake spiral, spacing is .3125
nches. (0.5 inches center to center of tubing)
otal of 12 turns
can anyone shed some light on coupling.
thanks,
Shaun Epp
