They say don't try this at home so I go to a friends house with a tesla coil and 
it would not operate so I removed the secondary to be able to get close enough 
to fire and his stereo fried. It might have been a coincidence, but it still 
fried.

Ok i have everything complete but im still winding the secondary by hand so its 
taking a while. But for the meantime i just wanted to know is it possible to run 

the primary coil just to check to see if my spark gap will fire?
