Still something wrong with your math ......

Assuming two series-connected .5uF capacitors per string, each string will have a value of .25uF.

With a total of 90 capacitors available, one could assemble 45 strings, yielding a total capacitance of 45 * .25 = 11.25uF.

Charging the entire 11.25uF capacitor bank to 10kv will provide a stored energy of 563 joules (lower case j).

Whoops, I was thinking 2 caps would handle 10KV from what I have been
reading. The 5 crept in as it is the way we would do it if we had a lot more
caps. This setup would leave 45 pairs @.5uf each. @22.5uf and about 1125
Joules as stated. I stand firmly corrected on "Joules" misspelling.

I don't quite understand the post either.
For 90 caps with 10.5kV rating, then 18 strings with 5 per string.
Results in 1.8uF, 90j.
Using 0.5uF/2100V MO caps.

Joel's caps are predominently .5uF at 2,100V.

(Incidentally, the unit of energy is "joule".)

Lets see, if you series 2 (10kv) easy- .5uf*(45 caps)=22uf= 1100 Jules-
definitely a worthy ring launching, HD disk plates, or coin shrinker.
Please
be very careful with this as it is absolutely lethal. Be sure to
discharge
the caps a couple of times. The internal resistor will discharge them
over
time.

First thing: i cannot be held responsible for anything you do with your
capacitors, but here is what i did with some of mine:

As the previous poster mentioned, id highly suggest a very sturdy
enclosure
built to contain shrapnel and oil in the event that the weakest
capacitor
"lets go".  Pleeeeeeeease be extremely careful with these things when
you
gang them up, there is some very serious energy storage.  Other than
that,
MOCs seemed to work great for launching rings and other Not-So-Hard-Core
pulse power stuff. Basically the caps are junk anyway, so why not have a
little fun with them for awhile?  Just really keep safety in mind!!!
