Re: [TCML] "NST" is there a better way



Call some local sign shops and ask if they have any old ones they might sell
you. Even units with one output not working could be salvageable for you. I
was able to get 15Kv/60mA NSTs for about $20/ea by doing that. That way, you
avoid the expensive shipping costs. Transformers are big masses of iron and
copper. They are just going to be heavy and expensive to ship. Other options
are transformers from microwave ovens and oil burners. They tend to produce
less power and can be harder to use than the NST though.

Avoid the newer "solid state" units. They won't work on a coil. GFCI is also
is a problem from what I've read on the list.

"better" won't be cheaper. To get better, you go to pole pigs. :) As you're
new, I don't recommend that option.
