RE: [TCML] Primary Coil Copper Saving Idea
Hello Everyone,
Sometimes, on eBay, you'll find extremely good buys (in comparison to that $77 spool of 11Lbs. Jim Lux mentioned, and your $100 for 10Lbs. quote). One fair example would be the fact that, every time I've bought magnet wire, I've bought it for less than $8 per pound, and I've never bought off of anything other than eBay (excluding a pound of 40AWG I bought from a local electronics shop).
All you have to do is look...

This is what we're looking for...too bad it costs over $100.
Here's a MAJOR rip-off (Spool weight: 456 g)

Here are a few good finds from the first ten of seventeen pages -
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SPOOL-11-Lb-REA-Magnet-WIRE-Co-FORT-WAYNE-INDIANA_W0QQitemZ230328053465QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBI_Connectors_Switches_Wire?hash=item230328053465&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A1|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A4|294%3A25
That would be great if you had digital calipers to measure the gauge with.
HURRY!!! -

All you have to do to get good deals is shop around a little bit.
Good luck,
Christopher

My local Home Depot hasn't budged a bit on prices for copper or anything else--I've just about given up on them as a coiling source. Last year a 50' spool of 1/4" refrigeration tubing was about $50. At the time I also considered using thick THHN wire to save money, but it was so expensive, I couldn't see any cost advantage. These days that 50" spool of Cu toob is about $30 at my local Lowe's. I went ahead and bought one. I still miss the late 90's / early 00's when I could get it for $16-$18 per spool. Wish I'd bought a few and stashed them.
