[TCML] VFD motor
Hi Scott.
I have a VFD on my lathe. It is an ordinary 3 phase motor as far as I know -
presumably an induction type (I bought it complete as a kit). The VFD
controller runs off my house's normal single phase supply, converting this
to 3 phase for the motor.
Anyway the main point of my reply is that if the motor was synchronous I
would not have thought it would be of any use for a VFD as this works by
varying the frequency that is supplied to the motor. If the motor is
synchronous it kind of defeats the object?
Mine has a digital readout and I can see the frequency varying as I turn the
speed control. This varying frequency in turn varies the speed.
Regards
Phil
