I use one of the Dremel fiberglass reinforced cut off disks.  Remember to do 
it outside if you're cutting 2% thoriated tungsten, and take a shower as 
soon as you're done cutting to get the dust off you.

Are you cutting 1/2" or larger rod this way? I've cut small diameter rod 
with a Dremel cutoff disk, but I feel like 1/2" may be a bit much.
