Re: [TCML] Variac
Jay:
"Variac®" is a registered trademark of the late General Radio Co.
The term has loosely come to mean any variable ratio auto-transformer
which can be adjusted by turning a dial. The theory of the Variac® is
the same as that of the auto- transformer. Several companies make
simular units but under different names. One company has the
trademark as well as the patents for the Variac®. Try lookiing up
"auto-transformer". Auto-transformer is often defined as a transformer
where one winding serves as both primary and secondary. Any text book
that deals with transformer design should give you what you are
looking for. Hope that gives you clue.

I am just curious but does any one have any equations that describe
the variac. I did a quick google search and did not come up with
anything.
