[TCML] Large increase in power consumed when going from SG to SRSG

I just replaced the (very successful) hyperbaric gap with a sync rotary gap. 

After cap adjustment, phase adjustment and retuning I noticed that the power consumption had risen from approx 750Watts to 1200Watts. 

Is this normal?

I have a 60ma 12k NST and 135uF PFC capacitors attached. 
Variac is putting out 140V.
