RE: [TCML] Video of SISG Tesla Coil



Hi Bart, I was using 130nF on that video. I agree with you in that an
extra large cap is necessary when using 1 or 2 MOT's. Observing the
waveform shows that most of the energy is transferred in the 1st pulse.
As we raise our voltage, the energy goes up. I had a hard failure
shortly after that video was shot. I assume that a transistor failed
(prolly o'current), which caused a cascade failure. I am only using 90nF
now (when using the pole xmfr). The normal PS is 3 MOT's; secondaries in
series, primarys in parallel. These are current limited to 25A with a
choke. I did notice that the sound changed (ragged sounding) as the
supply voltage was increased over the normal firing voltage. I also
observed very chaotic pulses. I didn't crank the voltage much higher
than this. Observing the SISG (during all this)on the Spectrum Analyzer
showed that spurious signals were showing up. This is bad. We want all
the energy to be in one band. I didn't have enough courage to turn it up
much higher. The toroid is one of OWL's. It's a 9X21. We had a group buy
several years ago. I think maybe Dave (D&M's High Voltage) orchestrated
it.
