If the NST puts out 12 kV, is it better to arrange the MMC caps in 12 kV
configuration, or buy a few more and make sure that the voltage rating of the
MMC is (significantly) in excess of the NST output?
Teslamap tells me that the optimum static spark gap MMC is 9.3nF - which is
16 of the caps in series, giving a voltage of 32 kV.
A 12 kV (RMS) NST puts out peaks of 12 x sqrt(2)=16.97 kV, so if you do not
buy more, you WILL have to buy more %-) 32 KV is a good safety margin.
