Gaahahaa...What a stupid mistake!

Trust be told, I wired this thing as the first component of my first
Tesla Coil, and from then on I assumed the wiring was fine.  After
being prompted to look at it with more experienced eyes, the problem
jumped right out at me.

This proves the value of never overlooking the blatantly obvious :)
