Re: [TCML] Primary selfC
Bart, all,
I think Chris is looking at about 6.4nF for the ribbon primary. So he's
probably correct to ask the question given the very low tank capacitance.
Primary C may be much higher than expected (a good deal of area at about
557 square inches). Should be able to verify by inserting a signal to the
primary as one would with a secondary and looking in the range of 470kHz
assuming inductance is about 18uH.
Regards,
Bart
I found a cap calculator on your site, looks like 6.4nF is pretty much a
ballpark figure with this thing! The aim for the primary was 3nF at 6uH.
The capacitance is more critical than the inductance.. but I do not know for
sure what the frequency of my secondary coil is exactly yet either...
problem there being as its around 2mhz I have nothing to actually test
it....
Saying that, I now just realised that 6uH will lower my frequency to
1.18mhz... using a lower cap value of just 1nF brings me back up to 2mhz....
As for the secondary, at least I can either add more top capacitance or just
de-wind turns to tune it if needed to tune it to the primary....
I will have to load my secondary coil details into JavaTC again and crunch
better what my secondary frequency will be... then try and work out some
ballpark primary figures.
I have a multitude of problems now. I will have to decide that 1nF and 6uH
are my 2mhz figures. So my primary must ballpark around 0.5nF. So assuming
the secondary will add say 0.2nF into the mix, then it leaves me to think up
a way to vary the capacitance of 0 to 1nF to tune the primary..
Probably a good time to ask if anyone has a 1nF variable cap rated at about
1,000volts :-)
Chris
