yes and no... 

The Faraday cage does a nice job shielding against E field.  Not so hot against H field. Not at all against H field oriented perpendicular to the wall of the cage.

So, what's your EMP like pulse coming from, and is it sufficiently far away that:
a) you're in the "far field" of the pulse (so E field is dominant, and effectively plane)
and
b) that there's nothing near your cage that will pick up the EMP and turn it in to a near field source.

An entire house?

Or vulnerable equipment within the house?

It's mostly like protecting against lightning.  Tie things together so that there's no voltage differential between things.  Make sure there aren't loops, which act to turn changing magnetic fields into voltages.
