Usually 3 coats prior to winding and 4 coats after winding is fine.
Personally, I always use Dolph's AC-43 as it doesn't yellow with age as some
polys do, and doesn't crack with age as all polys do, and last -- AC-43 is
specifically designed for this task and has much better dielectric qualities
especially at 200-500 kV operating potentials on coils.
I buy it in 5 gal. pails, but could usually spare a quart if someone on the
list needs some. Contact me off-list.
