Re: [TCML] MOT Measurements

Hi Dave,

The transformer "core" is 2.1" thick. It's width (longest section left to right) is 5.1" and it's depth top to bottom is 4.5". The shunts are in place just as you assumed and reach across the thickness at 2.1"L x 0.3" Ht and 0.85" width (1.6" core material between inner edge of shunts). About 15 shunts make up the 0.3" Ht value per side. I have 2 of these MOT's (and a few other smaller MOT's).

I doubt I'll remove the shunts (would be difficult to compare as the 40A short circuit primary current is about at the edge of my test equipment capability). However, the extremely low voltage turn is removed and not part of the measurements.

Regards,
Bart

Bart,

Nice series of measurements. What are the dimensions of the inner section of the transformer core?

I assume that the transformer had its original magnetic shunts in place.

A very interesting comparison would be to run the same measurements with the magnetic shunts driven out of the transformer.

Hi All,

I took a a few minutes to measure the characteristics of a MOT.
