Hi Douglas,The spark lengths you want really do dictate the power supply, cap size, and coil. It's the right place to start in any design.
I would certainly recommend putting two 12/30 NST's in parallel. You then have a 12/60 NST and capable of 38" sparks. This also helps your primary. The reason is that the LTR size for a static gap for a 12/60 is 0.02uF. Use this cap size and the primary will tune in at less turns (around turn 10). This is slightly over 20 feet of primary. Both coils will be resonant at 240kHz.
If you go this route, ask the list about how to parallel NST's once you have them in your possession (they need to be phased correctly).
Take care, Bart douglas smith wrote:
you have told me i need to extend my primary coil to 15 turnscan i solder the extra coil on or will that lower the performance of my tcalso any sugestions on how to hipe it up abit i was hopeing to get 3 to4 foot streamers possibley piggybacking another nst in paralell or something
