I seem to recall that internal arcing/discharge is aggravated if the HV
end of the secondary is inside the form?

That is, route the wire outside ths coil form to the top load?

Reduces ionization (which leads to sparking) inside?
(seemed to help my coil, not exhaustively tested...)
