Just a quick question. I'm building my first Tesla coil and have seen at
least two topologies: 1) main capacitor across NST secondary followed by
series spark gap. 2) spark gap across NST secondary followed by series
capacitor. I will be using the Terry Fritz protection filter directly after
the NST. Any recommendations on which topology to use?

Thank you.

Hi Bob,

While either configuration will work, the body of evidence indicates that
NST's that have the gap across the secondary, on average, enjoy significantly
longer life spans than those with the capacitor across the secondary. Check the
archives for the technical explanation of stresses, etc.
