The rings are anextensio of an effect called the "Eye of Sauron" from the 
time I first did them in Feb this year. No one seems to have seriously 
replicated them since then and they were very popular on the net.
They are a simple long exposure of sparks from a rotating breakout point.
You can see the rotating rod on the Discovery segment. Just imagine that all 
sparks are included in the final photo.
