Re: [TCML] Calculate Output Voltage

Yes, Vsec = V pri (peak value) x 70% x SQR (Lsec/Lpri)
This will be very close to reality. It's important to accurately measure your spark gap setting to determine max voltage available to the cap. It's not always Erms x 1.414 if the spark gap is set too close together. See my chart on spark gap settings vs. voltage in the archives.

You can also operate it in single shot pulse mode and measure the spark length and use the chart I've posted in the archives.

Subject: [TCML] Calculate Output Voltage

Hello,
I was wondering if anybody knows of a formula to calculate the secondary voltage of a Tesla coil. The only one I thought to try was Vout=(Vin/Pri)Sec which should work with a standard transformer if Vout is voltage out, Vin is volts in, Pri is primary turns, and Sec is secondary turns. However, this seems to be returning an extremely high voltage.

Thanks,
Clive
