Hi Derek,

I am plotting a choke charge design. Was thinking of using 2 MOT in series to give around 5KV, then convert to 7KVDC or there abouts. Then using a RSG with a large choke to double to about 14KV..

40Kv sounds interesting, not sure I dare go that high, but could be interesting!

Why not use your two NST's in parallel into a voltage doubler making a 20 Kv DC supply, this does actually charge two cap banks in series one in the -ve
cycle and the other in the +ve cycle.

Or (if you have a rotary) rectify the two nst's and use a large charging
choke and a d-queuing diode. This  will give you roughly double the input
voltage when the coil is running.

or use both ideas to give you 40KV...

Alternatively if you have 4 mot's remove the HV windings and use 2x mains
windings on each of 2 MOT cores to make 2 isolating transformers so you can drive your two nst's in series. The centre connection of the two nst's (not
the cases) connected to earth.

Do not earth the cases, and be very careful in operation as the case of each
will be at 5Kv WRT Earth

Hi all,

looking for a 20KV 50mA supply if anyone can help. I have 2 10KV NST's here
which I use, though I can't link those in series as they are centre tap to
ground anyway :-( So wonder if there is any 10KV types which can be linked
in series for 20KV.

Was also wondering if the output voltage could be increased without a large charging choke. Would there be any way to charge up 2 cap banks in parallel and discharge them in series to get 20kv ? I half have an idea of instead of running at 100bps run at 50bps and gain a charge in 1 cap on positive mains
cycles and charge the second cap on the negative mains cycles ?
