Well, thanks for the replies that I got. It would seem this lil MOT
is about worthless except maybe as a future current limiter for a
better tranny. I can run it all day with a spark gap and a
cap....barely does anything impressive.....

Yes, MOTs usually have magnetic shunts in them. But the current
limiting
they provide is far less than for shunted NSTs. NSTs can run with the
secondary shorted all day without overheating. But MOTs will overheat
if
you try running them with a shorted secondary, or even with more load
than
they are rated for.
I suspect (others can correct me) the MOT shunts are more for adding a
bit
of current regulation to the Magnetron, and probably to limit the
initial
current surge of charging the level-shifter cap when power is applied,
and
are not there to keep the output current within save limits the way a
NST
does.
So, in my opinion, you are not going to gain much for the effort of
knocking
out MOT shunts. If you need more power, then adding a second MOT is
usually
a better way to do it.
