Indeed they are hard to get working right! :)
My plan at this point, is to add a 2nd NST, and
adjust the tank capacitance. (8751v@60mA/25nf)
The only thing that really disturbs me about these
smaller coils, is the lower transformer voltage
makes it take longer to reach a "bang" level,
while turning up the variac. This guy starts
firing at about 55 volts in. Ol Kong Sr. would
start firing at 26 volts... but then, he was
using a pair of 15kv NST's... gives me the
disturbing feeling that I'm wasting half of my
variac... although we all know it doesn't work
that way. :)
